Going green and becoming environmentally friendly is something that you should never put off. It is an extremely noble thing to do, and not only will benefit you, but your fellow neighbors and family. It is simple way to do your part to society, and help out in preserving our earth.

There are some very easy ways to go green in your apartment, even if you live in New York City:

1. Cut Down Energy Use

This is a super easy way to go green, and does not require any money. In fact, it saves money. All you have to do is pay more attention, and make sure to turn off the lights when you stop using a room you were occupying.

Other ways to conserve energy are by:

  • Switching all your lights to energy efficient light bulbs. This will cut down the amount of electricity they take to run, which is good for the environment.
  • Run electrical devices like your washing machine and dishwasher only when they are full, not when there is only half a load or less.

2. Recycle

In school you learn about the three R’s, the most important of which is recycle, and it is extremely simple to do. If you take the time to set up a proper system, then it is easy to maintain a daily recycling process. All you have to do is separate your bins, assign one bin as your compost bin, and throw away anything that can compose. The other bin, your recycling bin is what you use to throw anything else.

3. Green Cleaning Products

nowadays, there is a wide range of Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Products in almost every local shop in New York City, making the whole ‘going green’ process extremely easy. These chemical free products are another simple way to help keep your surroundings clean. They are also safer if you have pets or children!

4. Reuse

Another one of the three R’s- Reuse. You have no idea how much of the ‘trash’ you throw away can actually be reused. Mason jars, shopping bags, gift bags. They can all be used repeatedly, for many different reasons, and remain in perfect condition if you treat them with care.

So, before you go to throw out something you have only used once, look at it and think if it would be useful anywhere else.

But, in saying that, do not horde useless things that you cannot do anything with, as that will only make your life harder with all the cluster.

Going green is a lot easier than it sounds, or looks to most people. All you have to do is be aware of your lifestyle, and be willing too make changes, even if at first, they take some time, and are different to your daily, normal life. Because, the end result of taking care of your environment, and doing your part to save nature, is worth the time and energy needed! Trust us!
