With an increase in the number of online jobs now available, home offices have become more common in houses. Working at home is becoming increasingly popular as it has many benefits, like not having to worry about travelling, and also having flexible timings.

However, there are some drawbacks of having a home office. For example, you may get easily distracted by the noise if you do not have a proper, enclosed area to retire to when you are working.

To make sure you are able to get work done when you have to, you should take the time to set up a proper office. Some ways to make your office as comfortable as possible are:

Lighting

Lighting is extremely important, not only to prevent eyestrain, but it also helps with the overall look of your office. Proper lighting gives a homier vibe to the area, and stops it from looking gloomy. You should focus on positioning the lights in such a way that they illuminate your office space, without adding a glare to your laptop screen. If you are having the office built, make sure there is a large window, for natural lighting.

Storage

One thing you may not take into consideration when making and designing your home office is storage space. Keep in mind that on top of all the documents you have at the time, you will most likely accumulate more over the course of time. It is best to not only have bookshelves or cabinets for what you have, but empty ones for what you may need to save later on.

Desk

Your desk is a very vital part of your office. When you go to pick one out, make sure to put a lot of thought into it, as there are many aspects to consider. If your job is more computer based, then you do not need a large desk, just one big enough to fit a laptop or computer, and printer, scanner and any other electronic devices you may require. Consider getting a desk with a bottom cabinet, to store wires in, to avoid a messy appearance.

However, if your job requires more written work, like document signing, etc, make sure that there is a large desk space, to do so.

Aesthetic

It is important to choose a color theme and decorations that you find aesthetically pleasing, as they help create a comfortable atmosphere that make you feel relaxed while working. Many scientific experiments have been conducted which result in us knowing that lighter colors are more relaxing to our minds. So try going for a light pastel theme, with creams and whites.

Ergonomics

When you are arranging your furniture, make sure to do it in such a way that you are comfortable when sitting. Position the chair and desk close enough that you do not have to strain your back while working.

Perhaps the most important advice, is to just do what makes you feel comfortable, as you will be spending the most time in your office!
